The first “emergency” rescue of a photograph.

Long while back when I used to photograph a little less, I had lost over 400 photos to my computer vendor’s ‘assumption’ that I wanted the computer to be formatted, when I had specifically asked for an emergency backup since the hard disk seemed to be failing.
Thankfully most other files and photographs were backed up on CDs. But it was and still is a big loss… 400 photos was a few week’s worth of work and memories.
And just a few minutes ago, I recovered a photo from my camera with PC Inspector - Smart Recovery. I have used their File Recovery software too; both are free and highly useful.
Yesterday I installed Exifer, a good software for tagging photos with EXIF and IPTC tags. I need to be able to tag all my photos on a daily basis, without feeling burnt out after the work! IrfanView lets me do the work… but it’s OK for a photo or two, and I have a few thousand pending. OK, that’s not ‘daily basis’, but till date I have not done that *much*.
There’s KeywordCompiler, but it is complex, and probably beyond my requirements right now. It is free, so I’ll keep toying with it.
Ah, getting back to the point ;-) I was playing with Exifer and messed with an important photo:
Messed as in managed to corrupt the original hi resolution file and left with no backups!!! Thankfully I had not done
any photogrpahy yesteday, so I quickly downloaded the software and in a matter of less than five minutes, my photo was recovered. Only work that remained was delete the corrupted file, rename the recovered file and most important of all. TAKE A BACKUP!!
